The
European Union of Jewish Students wishes to express its profound
shock at the jailing of ten Iranian Jews convicted of spying for
Israel.
This 18
month-long espionage case demonstrates Iran’s utter denial of human
rights and freedom of innocent people, who are accused of political
manoevers that they are not in the least connected to.
Two of the
convicted Jews have received 13 year prison terms. One is sentanced
to four years in prison and seven others are sentanced to five to
eleven years in jail.
THE TRIAL….
-
No
representatives of human rights organisation, the press,
ambassadors or members of the family were able to to enter the
courtroom.
-
The
confession of the accused was broadcasted on Iranian TV. The
channel was exceptionnally allowed in the courtroom and only
for that episode. This mascarade was clearly orchestrated and
coerced by the Iranian government.
-
There is NO
evidence of espionnage regarding any of the 13 Iranian Jews.
-
The accused
were not able to choose their own lawyers… who have been
designated by the judge who is also the prosecutor.
TODAY… Jews
are still physically risking their lives because they are Jews.
