In
Spring '99 we had a big international family meeting of all the Laqueur's
from all over the world in Kibbutz Shfayim and we made
pictures of the event.

The 4th International Laquer/Laqueur Family Reunion took
place in Israel on 1999 April 16 & 17.
The local organizing committee had done and did a magnificent job.
The meeting was a huge success and we would like to thank Franki Meinhardt
and the organization committee: Ruth Elkan, Yael Meinhardt, Michael Mikzi
Naveh, Michael Molad, Irit and Nitzan Lan, Asher and Batya Israel, Ernst and
Rachel Bujakowsky and Orna Sadan for their hard work.
The location of the Kibbutz Hotel Shefayim, about 15 minutes from
Tel Aviv, was ideal; the weather was perfect and so was the company.
The hotel is a 5-minute walk from a nature preserve with a bluff
overlooking the Mediterranean. The rooms were modern and comfortable and the
ample, extended Israeli breakfast gave everybody a chance to renew
acquaintances and make new ones while experimenting with unusual dishes.
Friday morning, while registration was taking place, a number of us
took a guided tour of the Kibbutz, which was interesting in showing how the
socialistic, communal lifestyle is managing to adapt to the realities of
modern consumer economics.
The registration at an outlying conference building gave more
opportunities to socialize, as did the light lunch provided at the same
place. This was followed by a viewing of a genealogical film (in a New York
City setting), not necessarily applicable to the much better documented LQR
Yeckes. The following talk by David Lisbona on using the computer program
"Family Tree Maker for Windows" was instructive in showing what this
powerful program can do. He also pointed out the vast amount of genealogical
information available from that company and from the Internet. His specific
example, however, demonstrated that one should use this undigested and
unedited information as a useful starting point, but only with a large grain
of salt. It is neither
Garbage In – Gospel Out, nor Garbage In – Garbage Out, but
sometimes Garbage In – Watch Out.
The Official Welcoming Part was followed by the family picture and a
festive shabat dinner. The evening concluded with an excellent performance
by a young dance group.
As shown in the photos, Saturday offered a bus tour to Caesarea,
then to a pre-statehood internment camp, and finally lunch at a restaurant
on Mount Carmel.
All in all a delightful and well-organized family reunion! What's
next?
