Boi Bscholom
Voices from a lost world
Jewish cantorial music
from Hungary 1906-1929
The collection of
Hungarian Jewish cantorial music from 1906 to 1929 on this CD comprises
recordings selected from out of store LP's. At present they aren't available
elsewhere.
As part of the
Austrian-Hungarian Empire, the territory of Hungary, at the time these
cantors were active - with different borders than those today - belonged to
a greater Europe not yet divided by impermeable borders. Jewish cantors,
like Rabbis, enjoyed access to both the smallest and largest communities
throughout Europe and the Jewish culture was able to spread without
hindrance between East and West.
