Holiday Village
There is nowhere else quite like the Almog Holiday Village for relaxing in
peace and quiet, imbibing the fresh air and enjoying the pleasure of a total
holiday.
Entering the gates
of Kibbutz Almog on the northern Dead Sea, you enter a lush Garden of Eden.
All around you are the yellow-brown sands of the desert,
and in the middle distance like a fata morgana, a self-contained
little world, beyond time and place - lawns, swashes of the green of trees,
and multi-hued flowering gardens.
The overwhelming
quiet of the desert has its influence on the pace of the life lived there;
the body and spirit are refreshed by the tranquillity all around.
The holiday
accommodations on the outskirts of the kibbutz face a view
of desert wilderness. All the rooms are excellent, including 35 rooms with
television, refrigerator, air-conditioning, coffee corner and telephone, and
15 two-room suites with bath and terrace overlooking the view.
The dining room
serves excellent, classy tourist meals and the pool beckons you for a
refreshing swim.
On the grounds
of the kibbutz there is a unique little museum:
The Scribe's House. The museum, set up by the kibbutz members themselves, is
devoted to the fabulous saga of the Essene sect. Their special way of life,
in contemplative retreats in caves, has been the subject of research in
Israel and around the world. The museum exhibits exact copies of the secret
scrolls found in the caves of Qumran, original clay vessels and pictures
from the Qumran excavations. A sound and light show in ten languages reveals
something of the life and times of the cult members and of their
achievements in construction and in agriculture. |
