24% said they identified most with Orthodoxy, 36% said that of all Jewish
streams, they identified most with Progressive Judaism and 11% with Masorti
Judaism. An additional 29% said they identified with no particular stream.
While 32% said they preferred
marriage by an Orthodox rabbi - the only officially recognized form of
Jewish nuptials in Israel - a nearly identical proportion (31%) said they
preferred a non-Orthodox (Progressive or Masorti) rabbi. The rest (37%)
preferred no rabbi or a civil marriage, or had no preference. It should be
stressed that the survey was conducted prior to the media campaign for the
High Holy Days. |
