NEW PROFILE Movement for the Civil-ization of Israeli Society
POB 48005, Tel-Aviv 61480 Why Do We Conscript Them When They
are 18?
On Monday April 3rd, 2000, at 8pm, the New Profile Movement will hold a
public discussion on: A Feminist Look at Society and the Military in
Israel
Some of the questions we raise: Why do we conscript them when they
are 18?
Why do they enlist? Is the automatic kindergarten-school-army course
still necessary in today's Israel? Is the violence in Israeli society
related to the militarization of Israeli education? Speakers will
include activists of New Profile A Movement for the Civil-ization
of Israeli Society, a feminist movement founded in 1998 and working for
the amendment of conscription law, the legal recognition of the right to
conscientious objection, raising public awareness towards the
militarization of education in Israel. Vered Shomron
