1999 -- HaGalil online first
conceived as just a "sign of Jewish life
from Germany," has rapidly grown to be one
of the most extensive and diverse Jewish
websites in the world. It's definitely the
most comprehensive Jewish website in the
German language.
In Central Europe today,
there's a growing desire for discussion of
Jewish subjects among the Jewish as well as
the non-Jewish population:
-
Did you know that German
Jewry is the fastest growing community
outside of Israel?
-
Did you know that many
Jews in Germany live in small
communities, far away from any Jewish
infrastructure?
-
Although many Germans
are aware of Jewish culture and history,
most have never had any consistent
contact with Jewish people. Without
realizing it, they rely instead on old
stereotypes of Jews as fiddlers on the
roof, Holocaust victims or bankers,
without recognizing Jews as colleagues
or neighbors - citizens of contemporary
society.
Many visitors to our website
are German-speaking Jews living in Israel,
the US, Canada, or Brazil. Others have
written to us that they were very surprised
to see that there is such a thing as German
Jewry at all.
It is our hope that haGalil
Online will continue growing as a useful and
successful site for anyone seeking
information and services on Jewish affairs.
Any suggestions of individuals or companies interested in
advertising or sponsoring haGalil-Online would be welcomed and greatly
appreciated.
If you have comments to share with international Jewish
community, please write to us at haGalil Online. We look forward to hearing
from you.
Thank you for your interest.
Shalom from Munich
