The General Assembly of the United Nations has decided, by an overwhelming
majority, to take a major step towards the recognition of the State of
Palestine.
The supreme institution of the family of nations has decided to award a
new and special status to Palestine. Instead of the status of an
international organization, Palestine was awarded the status of a state
which is not a full member of the UN - like Switzerland and the Vatican
State. According to the Latin alphabet, Palestine now appears on the list
before these two.
These are happy tidings to all Israelis who strive for peace and who
understand that there will be no peace without a Palestinian state
side-by-side with Israel.
For Benjamin Netanyahu, who an opponent of Israeli-Palestinian peace,
this is a major debacle. But the National Con-Man has succeeded yet again in
turning defeat into victory, declaring that “the Palestinians have not
achieved what they were out to attain.” Nearly all the Israeli media have
accepted this lie. The miserable Labor Party has also expressed opposition
to the UN resolution.
The Netanyahu government has remained alone with Micronesia and the
Marshall Islands. The USA has surrendered to Netanyahu, as usual. But all
friends of Israel were among the 124 member states which voted for the
resolution.
The State of Palestine will come into being on Mai 4, 1999. This week, an
important step towards that date was taken.
